Daya was singing "I Can Hear the Bells" from the musical Hairspray when she discovered her belting voice.
She tells 103.5 KTU's Wendy Wild backstage at #KTUphoria that her class was working on the song when they discovered something soulful in Daya's voice.
This was Daya's second appearance at #KTUphoria, but her first full set. The singer says she's been working on her new album this summer and she's being tight-lipped about any collaborations she has in the works.
But even with her career unfolding so quickly, the 18-year-old singer is enjoying every move, and she hasn't forgot what's important in life.
"âIâm kind of all over the place," she said. "The main thing is the support from my fans Iâve been receiving over the past years."
